Kansanmusiikin isompi ilta: Vahvat juuret - uudet versot

The concert evening “Kansanmusiikin isompi ilta” presents some of today´s brightest stars in the Finnish folk music scene. Freely translated Isompi Ilta means “bigger evening for Finnish folk music”. The event brings to the Helsinki Music Centre´s concert hall Frigg, Johanna Juhola reaktori, Antti Paalanen and Saaga Ensemble. All bands consisting of Finnish top folk musicians that are actively touring not only in Finland but around the world.
Beside the main concert, the evening includes a number of fringe events. Before the main concert, children of all ages can join “näppäri” pedagogical workshop. After the workshop children can show their new skills right away at the Helsinki Music Centre´s lobby. The lobby is also filled with music and dance after the main concert. At the Music Centre restaurant Tansanian born Arnold Chiwalala Band and Maija Kauhanen Solo fill the air with different kind of kantele sounds. In the Black Box room Kiharakolmio turns the room into a dance hall with catchy rythms and melodies.
The event is being arranged in collaboration with various organizations:
Sibelius Academy, The Central Committee for Folk Music and Dance, Global Music Centre/Etnosoi!, YLE, The Finnish Folk Music Association, Finnish Kantele Association, Perinnearkku Association, Rahvaan musiikin kerho, Finlands Svenska Folkdansring ja Finlands svenska spelmansförbund.
